This man S. Bunker one of large family of 13 came from Gouldsboro, Maine, U.S.A. and was pioneer and only one of the name to come here except a twin brother Theodore who visited him once. His wife Rebecca Thomas was perhaps youngest daughter of Joseph Thomas of Blue Ridge, North Carolina who lived and died on the north bank of Oromocto opposite head of island near mouth of Morency one half mile east of Tracy Station.

A South Branch Oromocto Family.

The above mentioned Lawrence Mersereau’s parents lived on Staten Island, New York. Two of his sons went to Staten Island and tried to get property of their father; they failed to get any.

The church at Tracy was dedicated on Sunday and the next Sunday it was the funeral of David Phillips Jan. 1, 1873, Born about 1821.

It was Dan Emmet who wrote down in Dixie in 1857. John Howard Paine author of home sweet home born June 9, 1791.

The above Daniel Wood owned a large tract of land on the main Oromocto and it fell into the hands of his son-in-law George Morrow, husband of Elizabeth Wood. This man George Morrow carried on lumber operations and became quite rich.

This Wm. Boone was one of 3 or 4 brothers Captain Samuel & Rodger, William and George were prisoners of war in American Revolution. The wife of Wm. Boone, Ruth Hill, was in Boston when men disguised as Indians boarded English ships and threw cargos of tea in the sea. Would not pay duty. I have [heard] my mother tell that her and her brothers and sisters had heard their Great Grandmother Ruth Hill relate the above and other stories of that trying time. There were three prisoners of war. These brothers, the pioneers of Boones in New Brunswick. Ruth Hill and I the writer John C. Tracy am Great Grandson of [the paragraph ends mid-sentence.]

I will give a short account of my two grandfathers.

Jeremiah Tracy born Nov. 27, 1786, sixth son and first of name born in New Brunswick and perhaps in Canada. He married Mary Webb Apr. 7, 1807. His family was eight boys and two girls. Average age of father and 10 children was 78 years and all were at his funeral in Sept. 1869. His age was 83 leaving 49 grand children living. And being a captain of militia at the time of Papineau rebellion in 1837, said, ‘Should my services be required I am ready’. 6 out of 10 lived to see their golden wedding. – John C. Tracy

James Jones born Nov. 27, 1787 oldest son of Richard Jones and Mary Boone pioneers. His wife Sarah Crouse born May 30, 1792, married in 1810. Their family was 9 boys and 6 girls lived to grow up and one died in infancy and one drowned aged 27 making 16 in all. The average age of parents and 14 children as to age is 78 years. James Jones died in 1877, his age 90, leaving 67 grand children. He was captain of militia and did home duty in 1812 war. I heard my mother say that her aunt Rebecca Jones came to see her in 1877 from California at age 70 feeling almost the same as when in her prime. Her age was 90.

Age 52 Richard Jones born 1799, died 1851 and his wife 100 Amy Crouse and their 13 children. This family including parents, 15 in all, average 74 years.

James Jones and Richard were brothers and their wives were sisters children of Phillip Crouse Sarah Burtt whose family was 10 boys and 8 girls. All grew up except 2.

Mahala Jones Webb daughter of James Jones and wife of Deacon Webb lived near river ½ mile east of Tracy Station, Sunbury Co., N.B. when in 1910 summer I with a crew of Italians and a few others laid steel rails on railway by this home of my aunt. Her grandson being with me after dinner he said he would go down and see grandma. When he came back I asked how he found her and he said down on bank of river doing a washing where she had washed for 73 summers now at the age of 95 years. – John C. Tracy, son of Jemima

History

The church at Tracy was dedicated on Christmas, and the funeral of David Phillips was the next Sunday, January 1, 1873. This first funeral in the church.

Gilford Slipp says his grandma Hartt’s name was Phoebe, the wife of Thomas Hartt the first.
